Die Tageszeitung – Extreme Right Parliamentary Connections
The German daily newspaper »die tageszeitung« (taz) has conducted a thorough investigation into the backgrounds of Germany’s right wing party members of parliament and their employees after the AfD has for the first time entered the German parliament after the 2017 federal election. Over a period of several months research on the backgrounds of parliamentary staff has been undertaken in conjunction with several partner institutions. All information has been stored in a database.
To effectively communicate the AfD’s connections, I designed a radial data visualization, which showcases the party’s involvement with different branches of society and on different levels of granularity. The main challenge was to present the raw data and textual information in an easy-to-understand and digestable way while preserving good overview and navigability.
